Name the most expensive personal item you’ve ever purchased (not your home or car).
If you walked into our house, it wouldn’t take long to figure out what kind of people live here. Between the bookshelves packed with novels, the consoles lined up under the TV, and the stacks of Magic cards on shelves, it’s clear—we’re a household of proud nerds and gamers.
My husband’s gaming systems are probably some of the most expensive personal items we’ve ever bought — right up there with his Magic: The Gathering cards and my ever-growing book collection. We’re both big nerds and gamers, so our home is filled with consoles, card decks, and all sorts of material for our tabletop RPG adventures. It might look like a geek’s dream (or a minimalist’s nightmare), but it’s our happy place.
The Halloween decorations never actually come down (why should they?), plushies have claimed entire shelves, and there’s a suspicious amount of nerd merch lurking in every corner. My husband’s gaming systems could power a small arcade, my book collection has its own gravitational pull, and our stash of Magic cards could probably be considered a financial asset at this point. Minimalist? Absolutely not. But happy nerds? 100%.
Sure, our house might look like a cross between a comic shop and a haunted library, but it’s ours—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Every console, card deck, and plushie tells a story (and probably has its own layer of dust). Being nerds together isn’t just a hobby; it’s kind of our love language.
